Community Engagement
Richmond Hill Academy is a school that is rooted deeply in its community, being nourished by its people whilst enabling its children to flourish. Supporting a community is one of the most important missions a school undertakes, and it lies at the heart of all the work we do.
We understand that to provide our children with the life opportunities they deserve, our work goes beyond that which takes place in the classroom. We respect and value every parent and carer in our school and work with them in partnership in order to maximise what each child can achieve. We open our doors throughout every week to parents/carers so that they can share in and celebrate what their child is achieving. This might be through our parent KS1 reading mornings which take place at least once a week or our weekly celebration assemblies where parents/carers are invited to celebrate with their children.
In addition, our children are given the opportunity to perform in termly concerts to their parents/carers showcasing the learning they do in their choir and instrumental lessons with Opera North In Harmony.
We also hold events throughout the year where we encourage parents/carers to join us. An example of this was Mental Health Awareness week where we put on specific events for our parents/carers in our Community Hub. These included parent wellbeing drop ins and a parent support group.
The Great Get Together
Community Support
We also believe we can play an important role in supporting and advising parents/carers in terms of their own continued development. Our community engagement team have worked with stakeholders to identify three pillars of community engagement. These have been chosen as areas which are of great importance to RHA parents/carers and our wider community:
- Health and wellbeing
- Employment
- Housing
We want the Community Hub @ RHA to become a welcoming and vibrant place of learning and support for adults from across the Richmond Hill area. It is a space from which our chosen Community Partners can operate on a weekly basis and it provides excellent facilities that parents/carers to access to support their learning and engagement. Our Community Partners are:
- Learning Partnerships
- Leeds City College
- Zarach
- Early Help Hub
- Mindmate Spa
- Gipsil Counselling
