At Richmond Hill Academy we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and well -being of all of our pupils and adults. We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable which can impact on other children either directly or indirectly. We always take a considered and sensitive approach so that we can support all of our pupils and families.

Everyone working in our school has a responsibility to help keep children and young people safe by providing a safe environment for children and young people to learn and identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and in school.

The best advice that we can give any child, or adult, if they feel that they or someone else is unsafe is to TELL SOMEONE!

For all safeguarding issues or concerns please speak to the Designated Leaders for Safeguarding / Child Protection who are pictured below.

Tips for Parents & Carers

Online Safety

The internet is an exciting place for our pupils. It has endless possibilities and avenues of discovery. However we also know that the internet can be a dangerous place and the safety of all of our pupils is paramount. This page has been designed to support and give information to parents and pupils.

If you are worried for the safety of your child online, please contact the school immediately to discuss these with us on:

Top 10 Tips Staying Safe Online:

  • Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number.

  • Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.

  • Keep your privacy settings as high as possible.

  • Never give out your passwords.

  • Don’t befriend people you don’t know.

  • Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do.

  • Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.

  • Think carefully about what you say before you post something online.

  • Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude.

  • If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

The Underwear Rule

Simple conversations really can help keep your child safe, and that’s what we will help you do. We want to help parents and carers talk to their children about staying safe. The Underwear Rule is just one way that – together – we can prevent child abuse.

We teach our pupils the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule using the ‘PANTS’ acrostic. PANTS stands for:

  • rivates are private
  • lways remember your body belongs to you
  • o means no
  • alk about secrets that upset you
  • peak up, someone can help

How well do you know the rule?

Test your memory by hovering over the cards below to flip them and reveal the meaning.
